SAFESIP SELECTED AS ECHOING GREEN FELLOWSHIP FINALIST

Tanzanian social enterprise recognized among 40 top global innovators for its groundbreaking, community-led solution to the rural water crisis.

MOROGORO, TANZANIA – 02 April 2026 – SafeSip WaterBank announced today that it has been selected as a finalist for the highly competitive 2026 Echoing Green Fellowship, a premier global program supporting best-in-class social change leaders.

Chosen from an expansive pool of over 4,100 applicants from 139 countries, SafeSip WaterBank joins a cohort of just 40 finalists who embody transformative leadership and bring bold, scalable ideas to solving the world’s most urgent challenges.

SafeSip WaterBank’s selection highlights its innovative, tech-enabled approach to tackling the systemic rural water crisis in Tanzania—a crisis that disproportionately imposes a brutal “time tax” on women and girls who walk hours daily to fetch water. By deploying autonomous, solar-powered WaterBanks equipped with AI-driven predictive maintenance and an inclusive RFID prepaid card system, SafeSip is replacing traditional, top-down aid models with financially self-sufficient, community-owned infrastructure.

“This work is a calling, rooted in the soil of my home,” said Faith Kuya, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SafeSip WaterBank. “My drive comes from witnessing the systemic theft of potential from the people I love—seeing brilliant women spend their days walking for water instead of building businesses, and children missing school from preventable illnesses. We believe our communities are not victims to be saved, but experts in their own reality. To be recognized on a global stage by Echoing Green validates our mission to co-create sustainable solutions alongside the communities we serve.”

Through its radical co-design model, SafeSip hires local women as paid ambassadors and operators, and establishes Community Advisory Boards to govern operations. Operating out of Morogoro with units expanding into Dodoma and Singida, SafeSip has already successfully deployed systems providing clean water to 6,000 people—achieving over 95% operational availability and eliminating reliance on short donor cycles.

According to Echoing Green, accelerating global issues pose daunting challenges that require bold, creative, and passionate solutions. It is in times like these that transformative leaders step up to do their best work.
